In July 2008, Round Rock, TX was voted #7 by CNN Money Magazine's Annual Poll "America's Best Places to Live 2008". The poll covered the nation’s small cities, those with populations of 50,000 to 300,000 range. Round Rock can claim a colorful past with links to such outlaws as the notorious train robber Sam Bass who died in Round Rock and Soapy Smith, the infamous con man who reportedly got his start in Round Rock. Round Rock actually started out in 1851 as a small town on Brushy Creek and originally adopted that name, but in 1854 the post master renamed the town after the now famous "Round Rock" in Brushy Creek that so many used as a marker for a shallow wagon crossing. Today Round Rock is proud or its beginnings and even displays Sam Bass' original tombstone in the public library. Tourists can also visit his grave in the nearby Round Rock Cemetery.

Old Town is Round Rock's pride and joy and visitors and tourists come to the town to experience a bit of yesteryear as many of the original buildings still stand today. In addition to the Old Town area Round Rock is home to many modern businesses and is a fully self contained community with a population of over 60,000 residents. You'll find it easy to remain in Round Rock but if you want to get away for the day Round Rock is centrally located to Lake Austin and Lake Travis as well as being only minutes from down town Austin.

Round Rock Independent School District is home to 40 campuses and serves Round Rock as well as portions of Austin and Cedar Park. Round Rock is proud of it's high academic standards and achievements and boasts that 37 of its 40 schools have achieved gold performance acknowledgement. But academics is only one ingredient for a well rounded child, Round Rock ISD understands this and offers many sports programs and extra curricular activities to spark the creative mind as well as the body of it's students.

Living in Round Rock is as easy choice and with the median home price at less than $200,000 it's all the more attractive. You'll find a wide selection of homes from the oldies but goodies in the Old Town area to brand new communities with play parks community pools and an eye pleasing design.
