Onion Creek is just 6 miles south of downtown Austin near I-35. The community was first settled in the 1850s with the charter of the Onion Creek Masonic Lodge. A near by cemetery, Onion Creek cemetery, was in place in the 1880s. The Onion Creek of today started in the 1970s as a luxury golf community with an 18 hole golf course designed by golfing great Jimmy Demaret.
