Marshall Ford, TX Real Estate

Marshall Ford began as a simple river crossing where the western part of the county with its farming and ranching communities could cross the Colorado River for easy access to Austin. The bend in the river became a trading center and a supply point for cedar timber and posts. In 1934 the area was taken over by the Lower Colorado River Authority and Mansfield Dam was built as a flood control structure in a series along the Colorado Basin. In 1934 a post office was erected with Jack S. Beauchamp as postmaster. The community was small with few houses and in 1942 the post office was discontinued and mail was sent to Austin. Today Marshall Ford is an unincorporated community along the shores of Lake Travis.

Marshall Ford sends its school age children to schools within the Lake Travis Independent School District. The district is known for the excellent education it provides and the preparation the students receive for their future. The student teacher ratio is low and the children thrive on individual attention. The district excels and is continually exceeding state education requirements as are the students with high test scores and a low dropout rate. Besides offering an excellent education the district believes in diversity and offers a wide range of sporting and extracurricular activities that makes the learning experience for the students of Lake Travis ISD lasting and enjoyable.

Homes in Marshall Ford are a culmination of decades of construction. Many early homes were built as vacation and second homes. These homes are usually small and have a cottage feel. Many of these homes have been renovated over the years as the community slowly grew to include full time residents. New construction throughout the area is providing homes with family living in mind. New architectural styles are attracting families, singles, empty nesters and retirees to the area and Marshall Ford has become a diverse community where fulltime residents and weekenders are friends and neighbors.

The area in and around Marshall Ford offers all the amenities and services required by consumers today. You'll easily find dining and shopping nearby and most residents have the luxury of never traveling far from home for their daily requirements. They can go into the city and enjoy a day of unique shops and dining as well as a huge selection of entertainment options while home is not far away. Marshall Ford is well situated to accommodate the most active residents and offers the best of both worlds with quiet streets leading into the bright lights of the big city of Austin.
