Northwest Travis County is home to Manor Texas, which is pronounced MAYner. Manor started out as Grassville in 1859 with James Manor as the postmaster. The post office discontinued one year later but another was established in 1871. This time the town was called Gregg. Gregg didn't last long and was renamed Manor in honor of James Manor that same year.

Manor was situated along the Houston and Central Texas railway line and had three churches, six general stores, and a population of 125. The town rapidly grew to 900 residents by the first part of the 1900s but the onset of the depression saw a decline. Despite the reduction in population Manor remained an economic center for area farmers. Today Manor is home to almost 11,000 residents.

The town of Manor has enjoyed tremendous recent growth and today Manor is considered a technology hub for central Texas. Businesses including Applied Materials and Samsung call Manor home. With nearby large business firmly in place the housing market has exploded and many new communities have recently completed or are in the process. The median price for a home is Manor is just over $150,000. The close proximity between housing and business allows for employees to have the luxury of a quick and easy commute and many ride bikes to and from work.

The residents of Manor enjoy a wealth of local and nearby business to provide the day to day necessities of life. Shopping and eateries are all well within a short commute while Austin and all the amenities of a large city are just miles away. A day trip to Austin is a short and enjoyable excursion with the comforts of home nearby. Manor is becoming one of the up and coming small towns of central Texas.

Manor Independent School District has nine area campuses and student population is reported to exceed 5000. The district actively involves the parents and the community to aid the learning process of its students. The facility is highly qualified and diverse and provides a well rounded education based on excellent academic tools and programs coupled with sporting activities and extracurricular programs that enhance and heighten the learning experience. The result is students who enjoy learning and are prepared for their future.
