The area near Leander was first settled by pioneers who received land grants in exchange for service in the Texas Revolution. These settlers lived in log cabins and endured Indian attacks and other perils of frontier living. In the 1880s the railroad came to town and Leander was born on the Austin & Northwestern rail line. A nearby community, Bagdad slowly relocated to Leander and the number of businesses and residents continued to grow. Leander hit its hay days in the 1890s when the population swelled to over 300 residents. In 1978 despite rises and falls in population the town finally incorporated.

During the 1980s and 1990s Leander experienced continual growth including housing communities businesses and Schools. Today Leander is called home by over 15,000 residents. The median price for a home is a little over $124,000 and the community is continuing on its upward path with new housing developments, businesses and more schools. The infrastructure is getting a boost as well and the area is thriving.

The Leander Independent School District now has 30 campuses and provides education for more than 30,000 students. Despite the large numbers, the Leander ISD takes a one on one approach with its students and the teamwork between community, teachers and parents make this approach successful. The district as a whole regularly meets and exceeds goals including state educational requirements, while the students strut their stuff with high test scores and academic achievements. Part of this exceptional success can be attributed to the integration of sports and extra curricular activities that enhance the learning process, making school fun and keeping the minds, bodies and imagination of the Leander ISD students active and healthy.
