The city of Lakeway is situated on Lake Travis approximately 16 miles west of Austin. The area around Lakeway Texas was first settled in the late 1800s but no specific community arouse until much later. In 1962 three business men purchased property to build a hotel and marina. As the project grew the group expanded to include 10 and the property purchase became larger. At the same time one of the original business men, G. Flint Sawtelle, formed the Lakeway Land Company with the plan to develop real estate in the area. Property sales began on May 30, 1963 and the grand opening for the Hotel and Marina was July of that same year. The community of Lakeway was on its way!
