Jonestown, TX Real Estate

Jonestown is nestled in the tranquil north shore area of Lake Travis. The community was founded in the 1930s by two brothers, Emmet and Warren Jones, who envisioned a thriving retirement community along the Lake Travis shores. The community enjoyed its peaceful and secluded surroundings but eventually things changed and the community in the 1980s decided to incorporate. Although many of its retired residents stayed, new younger residents were drawn to the area and the population grew.

Today Jonestown is home to a little over 2,100 residents, with a number of retired residents. The area has a rural feel, with older homes on larger lots, rolling tree studded hills meet the lake and the wildlife is abundant. The median home price in Jonestown is just $111,000. Most homes were built in the 1960s through the 1990s but construction of single family homes is always in progress somewhere in the community. Many people moving to Jonestown often consider renovating, so their priority for a home has to do more with the lot and view rather than the house which will be reconfigured to meet the needs of the new homeowner.

Most residents of working age make the short commute to Austin and other near by communities. The traffic can sometimes be congested during high traffic times and by the end of the day most residents of Jonestown are ready to leave the hustle and bustle of the city behind in exchange for the quiet streets and welcoming sight of home. The community has a small shopping center, several parks and a community library while new projects are continually being considered. Hiking around Jonestown is a popular activity and most of the surrounding wild areas, valleys and streams are managed by the Lower Colorado River Authority, ensuring that public access to these areas is free for all to enjoy.

Children of Jonestown attend two separate school districts Lago Vista ISD and Leander ISD. Both school districts excel, meeting school district educational requirements and passing on to students an academically sound education. Lago Vista ISD has 3 school campuses and over a thousand students while Leander ISD, a much larger district has 28 campuses and over 20,000 students, and is considered an academic powerhouse. The district has achieved the Texas state goals set for all school districts while many of the schools within the district are exceeding requirements with ratings of recognized and exemplary. Both districts provide the learning tools and atmosphere to foster a strong academic base for the students to build and grow from.
