Jollyville was settled in 1841 by Henry Rhodes after he obtained a land grant from the state of Texas for 1000 acres. The town however was named after a later resident, John Grey Jolly, the local black smith, who donated land for a school and cemetery where he and his wife Nancy were later buried. Throughout the years Jollyville remained a small town until Austin started to grow. Jollyville's close proximity to Austin enabled the town to expand into an Austin suburb community and the growth has remained steady since then, today over 32,000 residents call Jollyville home.

However most homes in Jollyville were built in the 1980s and 1990s, with a median home price of a little over $170,000.
