Nestled along the shores of Lake Travis, Hudson Bend is just 16 miles northwest of downtown Austin. The area was first settled in the 1850s by Wiley Hudson and his family of 8 children and two brothers. The family hailed from Arkansas (some say Missouri) and came to the Colorado River area with land grant in hand. They were a family of farmers and corn their crop. By the 1860s four families lived in the area.

Hudson Bend prospered and by the 1890s the town had a church and a school. Hudson's descendants remained in the area and the community revolved around farming and agriculture until the Marshall Ford Dam (Mansfield Dam) was completed in the early 1940s. With the creation of Lake Travis the community of Hudson Bend was reduced by half and the population slowly transformed from agriculture to residential. Farmland became housing communities and area businesses popped up. Today Hudson Bend is a community of over 3000 retirees, families and Austin commuters.

Lake Travis Independent School District provides education for the children of Hudson Bend. The district has 8 area campuses and 5500 students. The district is highly regarded with recognized and exemplary ratings for several Lake Travis ISD campuses. The district is continually setting and meeting educational goals while the students of Lake Travis ISD are scoring well in state testing. Lake Travis ISD offers a well rounded curriculum with an abundance of educational tools and programs as well as extracurricular activities and excellent team and individual sporting opportunities that help students thrive, grow and learn.

Housing in Hudson Bend is an exciting and enticing mixture of older vacation homes and new family friendly homes. Home construction in the area has been ongoing since the early 1960s and the median price for a home in Hudson Bend is just under $300,000.
