Georgetown, TX Real Estate

Georgetown, Texas was established in 1848 as a trading center for nearby agricultural and farming communities. The town was centrally located between the fertile farmlands to the east and the hill country ranches to the west. The town got its name from the man who donated the land, George Washington Glassock Jr. In exchange for donating 173 acres of land near the San Gabriel River the town and county seat for Williamson County was named after George and Georgetown was born. Today Georgetown is a small but bustling community with almost 30,000 people calling Georgetown home.

The community of Georgetown takes pride in its history, its historic district and its historic homes. The Georgetown historic district has been restored to its former glory and is now home to an active tourist trade for sellers of antiques and local handcrafts as well as other local and area products. This charming town sees an abundance of visitors yearly and provides valuable revenue to the city. In and around the downtown hub you'll find many restored historic homes. Wandering these sleepy tree lined streets you'll experience the charm and beauty of by gone days. Many styles of architecture are represented here from the colorful gingerbread clad Victorians to quaint Bungalows and earthy craftsman style homes, all are represented in the historic downtown streets of Georgetown.

Georgetown isn't just about history though, the small town values new improvements and strives to continually update and modernize the city. Many new housing communities are providing homes for new residents while the infrastructure to sustain these new residents is growing as well. These communities both large and small provide modern construction with 21st century amenities; all within a small town atmosphere. Several communities offer new golf courses while others have community parks and pools. Shopping centers and strip malls are allowing more and more in-town shopping and street projects are making the town easily navigable from one area to the next.

Georgetown Independent School District provides education to Georgetown as well as two other communities and educates over 9,900 students at 15 campuses. The community of Georgetown takes an active interest in its future population and many of the schools of the Georgetown Independent School District are rated Recognized to Exemplary with Georgetown High receiving the prestigious Blue Ribbon School designation in 1994, 95 and 1996; the highest honor an American school can receive. With such glowing achievements from the schools, the students of Georgetown ISD are thriving as well.
