Del Valle, TX Real Estate
In the Mid-1880s the community had grown and 50 residents called Del Valle home. At that time there were three churches, a school, a steam gristmill, a general store, and two cotton gins. Cotton and grain were the cash crops for the area. The community thrived but with the onset of the depression the population dropped and a community that once boasted 150 residents dropped to only 25. The Bergstrom Air Force Base boosted the local economy and the population started to rise again in the 1940s. The base was closed in 1993. Today, Del Valle has a population of over 800 friendly people. With the expansion of SH 30, Del Valle is experiencing an influx of new building and new residents. Del Valle Texas was established in the 1870s and was named for its location on Santiago Del Valle's land grant. The town is situated along the shores of the Colorado River seven miles southeast of Austin. The first post office opened 1878 with William Givens as the postmaster.
