Buda, TX Real Estate

Buda is located just 17 miles south of downtown Austin and was originally part of the Mexican land grant. The area was first settled around 1848 and most people lived near by in a community named Mountain City. In 1881, along the International Great Northern rail line, the town of Du Pre was officially established on land donated by CorneliaTrimble. A depot was established there and in 1887 after a request from the Post Office Department the town name was changed to Buda. Today Buda is one of the fastest growing communities in central Texas, but Buda is taking steps to ensure the small town feel and atmosphere remain a big part of Buda.

Residents living in Buda refer to the town as a small homey community where you know your neighbors and the entire town has one goal--to ensure Buda remains the small town they know and love. Residents in Buda enjoy high school football, socializing on Main Street and the quirky and fun Weiner Dog races held in April. Main Street is the city's heart and soul and the old town charm and feel is evident everywhere. You'll find antiques and shopping in many of the town's original buildings. Main Street is the perfect representation of the town of Buda.

Hayes Consolidated School District provides public education for the school age residents of Buda. The district currently has 17 school campuses that provide excellent education to its many students and continues to meet and exceed state and national education requirements. The district and its schools pride themselves on providing a high quality education, due in part to knowledgeable and committed teachers, helpful parents and a concerned community, but also rely on extracurricular activities that help create a healthy and active body, mind and imagination.

Buda is a town that has grown right along with its neighbor Austin and new housing communities are springing up along IH-35, while older homes are scattered throughout the area. Homes range in price with the median price at $181,000 and the styles of homes range from ranch colonial and traditional to bungalow arts and crafts and modern. You even have the chance to own an older turn of the century home near Main Street. In Buda choices are endless and opportunity abounds.
